I was today years old when I learned there is a seasonal ferry that goes right into the Seaport in Boston from Quincy. Traffic some days can be brutal, and I have a kiddo who LOVES weird travel methods - so I knew this ferry was something we’d need to try out immediately.
My son finished Kindergarten this week - how I’m not sure - but he didn’t have school yesterday, and my company observes the Juneteenth holiday, so a perfect opportunity for us to spend the day together doing something fun.
We caught the ferry and my son couldn’t stop staring and pointing at things in the harbor. I love living in a coastal area, and it really is so nice to take a deep breath of salt air when you’re out on a boat - even if it is a mass transit boat! 20mins later we arrived in the Seaport and proceeded to have a bit of a yes-day.
A few things were off limits (massive spending/eating everything we saw) but we had a ton of fun exploring the seaport together, going to our favorite park, mini-golfing, and sampling some instagram famous ice cream. It was ‘wicked hot’ as they say, but we had a great time with minimal meltdowns.1 We eventually ferried back and collapsed into the AC.

A few things I learned yesterday:
Sometimes it’s ok to not have plans, but sometimes you should check when everything opens. We arrived in the Seaport at 10, and barely anything was open. Luckily, our favorite park is right there, and we ended up having a great time running around and sliding down the slides together
Phones are such an addiction. I caught myself multiple times walking/standing around with my phone answering a text or message, and started to get really mad at myself. I noticed this more today than usual, and really didn’t like it. I might start adding my Brick to my bag when out with my kids so that it removes the temptation. Does anyone have any other tips for this? I know Kelly and Bailey have recommended Opal, so maybe worth a try too.
Less is sometimes more. We probably overdid it a bit walking around the Seaport in the humid heat we had today. We were both pretty gassed by the time we got home. I wish the ferry had a return option between 11 and 2, if so, we definitely would have been on it.
I need to do this more. Having a random day off is a great opportunity to do something with my kids 1:1 because I always feel like something gets in the way on a weekend - work, chores, errands etc. However, I need to remember it doesn’t need to be a full day off, just some dedicated time together is so valuable and my son couldn’t stop talking about it.

What’s for Dinner?
I find it really hard to get back into the dinner making schedule after traveling for a full week. I got back late on Friday, and then the weekend was chaotic. I would have loved to better meal plan this week, but it just didn’t happen.
Sunday - Smash Burgers
Monday - Chipotle Chicken Tacos
Tuesday - Leftovers
Wednesday - Left Overs (sad sack dinner honestly - I ate frozen pancakes defrosted)
Thursday - Cold Peanut Noodles
More A Day In Her Life:
ICYMI - This week’s chat with Demetra Liggins is so much fun! She’s an attorney in Big Law and mom to a two year old living in Houston, TX. I really appreciated hearing her perspective as a later-in-life mother, and how she’s balancing her busy career and family in this phase.
New Pod! - My friend
started a new podcast with her friend Maddie called Gems and Friends. This week they’re interviewing Amanda Jones Vaughan, who I follow and many of you may as well. Give their pod a listen!New Series - Aja and Aliza of the fabulous Platonic Love Newsletter have a new series called Bedroom Diaries which if you love A Day In Her Life, I suspect you’ll enjoy! To quote them “Each episode will chronicle a week in the life of an anonymous reader — and what they get up to sexually (or don’t).” It’s a great read.
One Year Ago - A Day in Her Life with Sarah @my.sister.made.me.buy.it! I loved chatting with Sarah about everything from grief to how she became a content creator. Sarah was so honest in her days and this was such a refreshing conversation!
Two Years Ago - A Day in Her Life with Jess Klein! Jess is an interior design and mom of two. I loved hearing about how Jess and her family outsources food, how she manages her business, and makes time for herself in the early mornings.
