We had an amazing week in the sun and got home late on Saturday. It was nice to be on vacation and check out for a week, but there is something very comforting about coming back to our usual routine (and my liver needed a break from the Red Stripe Lights).
One of my favorite life hacks is scheduling the return from vacation on a Saturday, because we have all Sunday to get unpacked/organized. This year, I forgot to schedule a babysitter for Sunday, but we had a great day with the kids.
This week, Netflix took a lot of my brainspace, a little escapism.
Five Friday Favorites:
Eucalyptus Spray - This was a rec from
and it’s made my shower feel SO much more luxurious. We loved these Steam Bombs, but price-wise, this spray gives the same effect at a much better price per use.One Day - OK. I originally was watching thinking “I’m enjoying this, but don’t know why people are so emotional about it” until I was DESTROYED by it. I was sobbing for longer than I care to admit. I loved it. And between this and the next one, Netflix has been living rent-free in my mind this week.
Love Is Blind - I don’t watch a lot of reality TV, but Love Is Blind has occupied my brain space these days. I cannot watch without my husband, and am unnecessarily furious at Netflix for only releasing the finale and not the reunion. One more week of counting down to Wednesday. Hopefully the reunion is less cringe than last year.
Strands -
shared this new NYT Game on Monday, and I’m enjoying waking up and spending a few minutes in bed playing. I love Wordle, Connections etc. and I used play religiously, but have fallen off a bit. I am getting excited to do this daily.Baking with my Kids - this cookbook includes THE BEST oatmeal chocolate chip cookies I have ever had, and when my kids want to bake, it’s my go-to. The other day, my little one wanted to bake, and while she was not particularly helpful, she was so proud to “bake with momma” and I can’t say no.
What’s for Dinner
Coming back from vacation, and not having to cook for ourselves for a week, I wanted this week to be easy, but also tried a new recipe.
Sunday - Pasta and Meatballs - We ended up going out in the afternoon to run errands, and as we were leaving, I threw some of these meatballs and sauce in the slow cooker, and by the time we got home, all I needed to do was throw some pasta in the water. Excellent move.
Monday - Chicken Cutlets - I saw this recipe from
and really wanted to make these chicken cutlets. They were awesome and pretty easy. Frying might seem ambitious on a weekday, but it was worth it. Next time, I am going to make a larger batch to save for other meals. I served these over arugula with a little dip she outlined in the recipe. It was delicious and the kids loved theirs.Tuesday - Homemade Pizza - At 5:05 my son got home and BEGGED me to make pizza with him so he could “decorate” it. I usually would have said no, but decided I didn’t really have a good excuse other than not wanting to go to the store. He and I ran to the store, got the ingredients (dough balls, cheese, sauce, pepperoni), and made pizza. It was so fun. I was glad to give him a “yes” moment.
Wednesday - Dumplings and Trader Joe’s Fried Rice - Hot take, I think I like the Japanese Fried Rice with Edamame more than the Chicken Fried Rice.
Thursday - Brats and Tots - Still a favorite. Still a meal I don’t have to cook! I missed brats after 2+ weeks without!
Friday - Pizza Night

The Hitha/Catherine panel on Thursday is going to be SO good! I'm very sad to miss it! (I have a class that night.)
Curious about your brats and tots. Is it simply brats and tater tots? Or do you throw in some veggies? Either way, sounds delicious!
This is my best travel hack too. Nothing better that having that extra day to veg out -- or realistically, do Laundry haha.
