This week was off. And I know I said that about last week, but this week was even more so. There was sh*t weather, there was some sickness, there was a car in the shop, there were taxes (which I miraculously didn’t f*ck up), there’s a lot going on at work with a big upcoming go-live, and all together things felt very frenetic.
And to top it off, today was a tough day. My son was home sick with me as I tried to work from home. We knew he was going to be home the night before, and my husband and I agreed he would stay home with me so my husband could go into the office (note this is not the default expectation, usually he tries to stay home too). Sometimes we can make that work, but today wasn’t our day. And it sucked. It’s very hard for me to feel like I’m doing a good job at either (parenting or the 9-5) when I’m doing both simultaneously. I am not proud of my parenting today, and I know I am my harshest critic, but it sucks. Next time this inevitably happens, we will do some things differently, but tomorrow is another day. I am ready for it.
If you’re a working parent, how do you handle sick days? Do you take the day off work? Do you work from home? If you have a partner, do they stay home too? I’d love to hear in the comments.
All that to say, there are no Five Faves this week. I love sharing things I’m loving, but it just didn’t come together in time this week. I’ve done enough self-flagellation tonight, so I’m going to go be gentle on myself about it.
In lieu of Five Faves here are some quick links:
I shared how I use StoryGraph to track my reading on Instagram this week, if you’re looking for a great way to track your books, I love it. If you’re already on there, follow me @ecrineck is my handle
This guy made me laugh, and I needed it. Also, middle school dances have forever burned Get Low into my “know every single word of the song” brain folder.
March Reads are up! I read a lot of Hockey Smut and I have no shame.
What’s for Dinner
When I don’t go to the grocery store on the weekend, the week ends up being all freezer as much as possible, and this week was no exception. We made the list in the car on the way back from Easter, and I ended up going to the grocery store Monday afternoon.
Sunday - Easter at my parents
Monday - Brats and Tots
Tuesday - Beef Bourgignon from the freezer
Wednesday - Hunters Minestrone from the freezer.
Thursday - Dumplings - Dumpling Daughter recently stopped their subscriptions, so I now have to go to the store to buy them. The inconvenience. But they’re still so good.
Friday - Pizza Night
