I feel like I JUST wrote my October reads, and here we are with the November reads. I didn’t read as much this month, but I read one of my favorite books of the year, and am halfway through another of his that I already know will be up there two. I read some smut, and book that had me smiling the whole way through.
I’ve said it before, but reading is escapism for me, and I have a feeling we’re going to need even more of it in the coming months/years. You can check out past month’s reads here. Be kind to yourself and each other right now.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Five Star Reads:
All The Colors of The Dark (Spotify) - This was a book club book, and my friend was so enthusiastic about the recommendation, I knew I had to read it even if the group didn’t pick it. We did, and when I started it, I wasn’t that into it, but that changed quickly. By less than 15% in, I could not put this down. At. All. I had another friend reading it at the same time, at nearly the same point, so thankfully I had someone to text as I was reading without spoiling. This is a sweeping tale of two kids and the traumas, struggles, and redemptions they experience. I love a book where everything comes together in the end, and this did that in spades, and was told so beautifully. If you’ve read this, message me!
The Ex Vows (Spotify) - OK we love a second-chance romance over here, and this one was a delight. Eli and Georgia are best friends turned lovers, who broke up and have tried to remain friends for their friend, Adam. But when Adam’s wedding comes and Eli and Georgia need to be “Best People” at the wedding, they’re confronted with how not OK they are with their breakup. I loved Jessica Joyce’s last book, and this was just a delight as well.
Other Reads:
Hardly Strangers ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (Spotify and Everand) - I elasped my allowed listening in Spotify and had to continue in Everand. The newest from 831 Books, this is a short book following Shera and Max on one night out in Silver Lake area of LA. I didn’t realize when I started the book that it all takes place in one night, but I really enjoyed these flawed characters. I wish I knew what happened to them past the morning, but I would absolutely recommend it.
BRADs
Shacking Up ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - 🌶🌶🌶 and Hooking Up ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - 🌶🌶 (Everand) - These were two delightful BRADs. In Shacking Up. Ruby is down on her luck and ends up house-sitting for Bane, who inadvertently kissed her at her friend’s engagement party and gave her the flu. A very enjoyable chemistry builds between them and when he returns from abroad, things kick off. The first book was very enjoyable and then the second, Ruby’s best friend Ami is embarrassed at her wedding by her new husband cheating, and ends up going on the honeymoon to the South Pacific alone, only find Lex, Bane’s brother there for work. Also super enjoyable and fun BRAD.
If You Need Me ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - 🌶🌶 (Kindle Unlimited) - The latest in the Helena Hunting series, and I really enjoyed this one. Dallas has had a huge crush on Hemi since highschool, but now that they’re working together on the Toronto Terror, a fake marriage sets up this book. You know I love a fake relationship, but in this one, Dallas has been wanting it to be real for so long, I found it a bit tough. Hemi really resists the chemistry, and I was annoyed with the struggle a bit.
The Naked Fisherman ⭐️⭐️⭐️ - 🌶 (Everand) - OK, when Nora Massey texts you in a fury to read a book, you read the book. Reese is an 18yo who moves in with her mom who just got out of prison, and her landlord is a very attractive 28yo, Fisher Mann. GET IT. Anyways, Reese has been raised very religious and she really struggles with the feelings she has for Fisher and her understanding of morality and the chemistry building between them. It ended with a cliffhanger, and I will read the second.
The Sweetest Oblivion ⭐️⭐️⭐️ - 🌶 (Everand) - Honestly, not my favorite book. I think the audio had something to do with it - I split between Kindle Unlimited and Everand and I would absolutely recommend the book over the audio. Elena’s sister is set to marry Nicolas Russo from a rival crime family, until something happens and everything changes. There was a lot of build up in the chemistry, but I just didn’t feel it.
