forcing my kids to love vintage(?) movies
forcing my kids to like movies I loved
This week on the podcast I chatted with Katya Eckert, the founder of A Domani, a cooling sleepwear company that supports women in some of their most vulnerable times - postpartum (IYKYK), menopause/perimenopause, and even chemotherapy. In our chat we discussed the movie nights she’s been having with her daughter, sharing some of the classic movies from the 90s.
My kids have never been super into movies. They love shows (Spidey, Bluey, Daniel Tiger, Oomi Zoomi etc) but they never really get into movies. We also tend to default to shows because they’re quicker, but I do love a movie, especially one that stirs up some good nostalgia.
So this Monday, a day when my kids are usually tanked from school/camp/life, I set up a little TV dinner in the family room and we watched Air Bud. I should add, that this was a huge novelty. Our kids never eat while watching TV, and as expected they did not eat well/eat much. I don’t know if we’ll do the dinner portion of this set up again, but you live you learn, eh?
Air Bud was a hit, but a remarkably emotional one that I didn’t seem to remember being as emotional. However, both kids said they would watch again.
It got me thinking, what are some other good vintage movies to watch with our kids? Friends sent me some, you all provided some, and I asked ChatGPT to help out, and here we have an actionable list of movies to watch with your kids organized by recommended age and rating.
I didn’t add in where you can watch them because it can change, but you can always google “how to watch {movie}” to figure out how to watch and if it’s on any services you’ve subscribed to.
