A friend texted me the other day asking where I get my kids’ clothes, and I had such a fun time answering, I figured I’d share with you all too.
I really enjoy finding clothing my kids can use and abuse and love while also looking cute. In terms of who’s driving the fashion decisions, my philosophy is to curate a closet for them with fun, age appropriate clothes, from which they can pick almost anything and we’ll both be happy. Keeping mostly basics in compatible colors with some fun patterns makes that really easy. I am not precious about most of their clothes. In terms of style, my son won’t wear anything with buttons or collars without extreme bribes but loves bright colors and red, and my daughter is still figuring out her style but loves patterns.
Five Friday Favorites:
Tops/Dresses - For my daughter, I lean on these Cat & Jack dresses for daycare with spandex shorts and leggings. They’re durable, wash well, and I really don’t care if they get dirty. I like the Cat & Jack line for standard-color shirts but I find that the majority of their shirts have words/screenprinting which I usually don’t go for. I also look for basics for the kids at Gap, H&M and Zara. The Gap pocket T-shirts wash really well and are so soft. I also like to get fun patterned sweatshirts like this from H&M.
Boden is one of my absolute favorite place to get kids clothes. They are great quality and so many cute patterns. These Jersey Dresses are great. Their shirt and leggings sets are so cute, and I think my daughter wore one weekly for a full year. I love that they have fun colors and patterns for the boys too (sometimes the boys get the short end). I also like Hanna Andersson dresses for my daughter too, all of their stuff is great quality, but I tend to be drawn more to the Boden patterns.
Shorts - I feel really strongly about this, Cadets shorts are the absolute best shorts for boys. They are the right length and come in a range of colors. My son LOVES the material, and they are durable beyond belief. I think we have tried all of the styles, but Le Club and the Classic Cotton are his favorite. These are the only shorts he wears. I also love the Patagonia Baggies. They are so durable, and going on their second child - look brand new.
Pants - My son is a stick, and the H&M jeans fit him well. They do run really big, so sizing can be tough, but these are his favorite and look great. He also loves sweatpants to my chagrin, so I usually order a few sets of these Old Navy Sweatpants for school, and the same set I ordered lasted a full 9 months of use and abuse at school.
Fancier Clothes - For fancier dresses and clothes, I usually go through some local boutiques I love - The Nutshell has a great selection of girls’ dresses. If I am looking online, I usually check out Hill House, Stitchy Fish, Bea Colette, to name a few. I wish she wore fancier dresses more often, but it doesn’t fit our lifestyle/daycare. For my son, “fancy” is tough. He hates collars and buttons which makes it hard, but I often bribe. He likes J.Crew kids, but is still on the small end of sizing.
Shoes - My kids love Native Shoes, so I usually get them each a pair at the start of summer, and then I love L’Amour shoes for my daughter. They hold up well with lots of use and are such cute shoes. Sneaker-wise, I’m not picky but my son likes bold colored shoes.
Pajamas - I love Lake Pajamas for myself and for the kids. They’re the best. My daughter is wearing the pairs my son wore when he was younger. I usually stock up during their sale on both the long and short sleeved sets. I size up for my kids so we get the most wear out of them.
Monograms - A good monogram can elevate almost anything, and I will often buy a basic set of sweatshirts and get them monogrammed by Bobinette.

What’s for Dinner
My husband was out of town for the beginning of the week, and it was a bit chaotic. You can see what that looked like on Instagram.
Monday - Brats and Tots
Tuesday - Grilled Chicken with Salad and Fries (the kids hated the chicken - which they usually like - for some reason)
Wednesday - Shrimp Scampi - I forgot how easy this was to make until a friend made it for us, and I just grabbed the shrimp out of the freezer, and dinner was a breeze. My daughter loved the shrimp.
Thursday - I was at the beach all day, so we did a pizza night.

Have you tried the cat and Jack woven joggers? They’re basically kakhi’s with reinforced knees. They’re the best little boy pants and nice and slim!
I second the Patagonia baggies recommendation! We've also had a lot of luck with the Cotton On brand board shorts and slouch shorts. They've held up for two summer already without much fading or wear.
