I knew camp season would hit our house with a tornado, and I wasn’t wrong. Routine shifts and transitions are tough for my big kid, and we’ve had some big feels and outsized reactions this week - so if you’re feeling it to with your kids, I see you!
It’s also been really cool to see him be so brave and walk into a new camp without being pried off of me, something I thought would NEVER happen based on our preschool drop offs (so if you’re in that camp, it does get better).
One thing I drastically underestimated though, is the amount of s#!t you need to remember to send with your kid to camp on any given day. Here are a few things we’ve found essential (and successful) for camp so far.
A Good Old Checklist - I’m printing up another one of my checklists, laminating it, and using these velcro stickers to help us prepare the bags each night/morning. I’ve already had to return to camp twice with things we’ve forgotten, and I’m over it. Bringing my kid into the fray will hopefully help.
Quick Dry Towels - I accidentally sent my son with a regular terry towel one day, and it was so heavy and gross when he came back. These towels are the best and they fold up so small
Sun shirts and Swim Suits - We have a number of these Cat and Jack, and they can’t be beaten for the price. My son is obsessed with the inner lining inside these suits too.
Googles - I swear by these goggles. We’ve tried a lot of brands, and these are a huge hit.
Bigger Water Bottle - Have you ever noticed that some kids waterbottles say 16oz, but it is actually 16 to the TOP of the canister, and only 12-14 to the base of the spirals? me neither… Maybe I’m the only one who’s been incensed by this (looking at you, Yeti), so I recently ordered the Owala Kids Free Pour, and they feel so much bigger than the other ones. When it comes to hydration, bigger is better in my mind.
Pipette - This stuff continues to be our favorite sunscreen, and the easiest for my son to reapply himself. It’s not hard to rub in at all.
Hats - These are my son’s favorite hats, and he will actually wear them, which is a nice surprise.

More A Day In Her Life:
ICYMI - This week’s chat with Rachel Kanter, mom of three and founder of Lovestruck Books was such a treat! Rachel shared her experience starting a Romance Bookstore and how the transition has been from being a stay at home mom to a different kind of busy with the store. This conversation was very refreshing and I’m so grateful that Rachel was a guest on the podcast!
One Year Ago - A Day In Her Life with Kristin Kennedy - I was just talking with Kristin about how on earth this was year ago! We recorded this before Kristin shared she was pregnant with Grace, and shares how she managed her days as a content creator with three kiddos! Kristin is so kind, and I love her Substack as well!
Two Years Ago - A Day In Her Life with Erin DiMella and Meg Nugent - Sisters and founders of Buggy Box, an on the go pouch to keep your kids busy! It was a blast to chat with sisters and my first double episode!
