I am a beach person. Always have been. There is nothing more satisfying to me than a day by the ocean reading a book. Now, with kids, solo time at the beach is a rare occurrence, but when it happens, it’s perfect.
Thanks to a mid-week holiday and daycare, I was able to get a kids-free beach day this week with a friend, and it was just so delightful to sit in a chair and not have my head on a swivel. I LOVE the beach however I can get it, but it was so nice to do it with a friend.
Inspired by this week (and its heatwave) here are some beach favorites that we use on repeat!
Five Friday Favorites:
Yeti Camino 50 Bag - I know Bogg Bags are everywhere, but this is the GOAT. I use this bag at the beach all summer, and for the pool/swim all winter, and I love it. It’s waterproof, you can easily spray out the inside when it gets sandy, and there’s a zippered, waterproof pocket for your phone etc. My only gripe is that I wish there was a way to close it (like a zipper top or something) because my youngest, LOVES to take everything out and drop it in the sand. I think it’s nearing 5 years old and hasn’t shown an ounce of wear.
Yeti Cooler - This thing knows how to keep cold things cold VERY well. We have the Yeti Ice too. Of course, any cooler will work, but this thing really works well, even when it’s over 95˚ outside. I used to use this for travelling cross-country with breast milk and it would keep it frozen the entire trip.
Dig-Git Umbrella - I have experienced many beach umbrellas, and these ones are the best. They have a built-in shovel and that shovel acts as a “lock” to keep it from blowing away. After digging in my budget shovel with my hands at the beach yesterday, I have a new-found appreciation for just how great the Dig-It Shovels are.
CoolCabana - On the beach, there are shibumi people, and there are CoolCabana people. One is not better than the other, it’s just a preference. We are CoolCabana people and we use this all the time when we’re at the beach in South Carolina. You don’t need any tools to assemble and you use sand to keep the ends down. Genius. Also there are pockets in each of the sides, which is great to store your phone. We also have the grass attachment and use this in my parent’s yard in the summer for shade for the kids.
Beach Chair - I have developed a specific affinity for a good high seated, beach chair because I can drag it down to the water and sit with my feet in the waves while reading without getting my butt wet. We usually get these at Ocean State Job Lot (iykyk) and these Rio Brand ones are our favorite. They’re pretty well-priced and last multiple seasons with consistent use. My husband is really tall, and the extended height makes a huge difference.
Microfiber Towel - We love these because they are thin, fold up small, and also don’t retain a pound of sand when you leave the beach. They dry quickly too. I prefer the Dock and Bay brand, but I know there are many similar out there.
Plastic Birks - These are my go-to beach shoes. I love that they can hose off, get wet, and sandy and still look great.
Sunscreen - I continue to sing the praises of this sunscreen. It’s my favorite!
Sun Hat - I will eventually write a full post on sun hats, because it’s a topic I have always felt very strongly about, but this is one of my favorites! I have had it for years and it’s still looking great.
