I signed up for an adult tennis clinic through my local parks and rec this Spring, and it’s becoming the highlight of my week. ~30 people of all various ages and abilities, meet each week with two coaches and we do drills, practice our shots, and then play some games. I’ve thought about signing up in the past, but this year, I remembered at the right time to check when sign up was, set a reminder to sign up, and made it happen with the help of my husband.
I played tennis all the time when I was younger, but haven’t played consistently in 10+ years so was nervous I would be an embarrassment, and while I am sometimes, it’s been so much fun. Everyone is so encouraging, there are so many laughs, and I’m always glad I went.
So, if you need a reminder to do something for yourself, even if it’s at an inconvenient time like 6pm on a Wednesday, here it is. Make it happen. It will likely fill your cup more than you expected.
On the topic of Tennis, I have been a big fan of workout skirts > workout shorts for a while now. They look more put together, and they can be dressed up or down easily, even if you just worked out. And a big plus, you don’t have to worry when you bend over picking up a child because they’ve got spandies. My aunt always wears them, and they’ve become a staple in my weekday wardrobe during the summers as I chase after my kids.
Below are some of my favorite tennis skirts I wear all the time and some I am eyeing.
Five Friday Favorites:
(clockwise from top left)
Vuori - I love all things Vuori I’ve tried (and if you have a male partner, the men’s shorts are awesome). I have been looking at this one, and might get it this year.
Old Navy - I have this one in two colors and wear it all the time. I like that the pleat makes it a tad more fun. Don’t sleep on Old Navy athletic wear - I have some other skirts from them from last year that I wear all the time. Great price, and solid quality.
Lululemon - I have this in two colors as well, including this fun red. It looks more straightforward from the front, but I like the pleating in the back.
Outdoor Voices - I ordered this in the wrong size last year and returned it, but really liked it. Going to order the correct size this year.
Rhoback - Another brand that my husband loves. They’ve started creating some women’s products and I love the look of this one.
What’s for Dinner
Disclaimer - I think meats and bagged salad is the dinner of the summer for us. In the summers we spend a lot of time in Rhode Island and I don’t have as much time to go to the grocery store on the weekends. Ordering bagged salads and marinated meats makes grocery ordering easy, and making dinner a breeze.
Monday - Whole Foods Marinated Chicken with Bagged Salad - We had the Pineapple Teriyaki Chicken Thighs from Whole Foods with the Southern BBQ Salad and it was perfect.
Tuesday - Salmon and Bagged Salad - Frozen Salmon and the Sesame Ramen Crunch Salad. I also started making sourdough again. I made two loaves and it’s just so delicious. This has been my go-to snack this week with Ricotta or Cottage Cheese.
Wednesday - Brats and Tots - I ate a Smoked Cheddar Brat in the car on the way to Tennis, and it was perfect.
Thursday - Chicken and Salad - I said it would be the meal of the summer, and I’m not sick of it yet.
More A Day In Her Life:
ICYMI this week’s episode with Yennie Solheim is full of so many great ideas and tips for efficiency. As a single mom, Yennie has to be very diligent about her time and I loved hearing how she schedules her days.
Julia S Powell (Episode 16) is publishing a gorgeous Children’s Book! I preordered one and can’t wait! Take a listen to Julia’s episode if you haven’t yet, she shares her days as a single mom, her life as an artist, how she got into art (such a great story), and her family’s experience with an Au Pair.
