This week was full of some good weather and it was so so nice! I walked a lot of miles, played my first week of Parks & Rec Tennis, and even had some smooth mornings with the kids. I am realizing that to have good mornings, I need to get up earlier. I hate it, but it really does help me in the morning. Right now, I am embracing waking up, washing my face/brushing teeth/contacts and then getting back in bed to read, do puzzles (Strands/Wordle/Categories), and generally “be awake”. Will report back on how this goes, but I’m trying. This week’s picks are random and spring-focused. Enjoy.
Five Friday Favorites:
My Herb Garden - Every year, I get excited about gardening for approximately 1 week. A few years ago, we got a raised bed, and it does spark a lot of joy. I love having fresh herbs when I need them, and it’s about he amount of garden I can take care of. This is the raised bed we have and I plant a few herbs (basil, thyme, and mint) and then one or two tomato plants. I haven’t done the tomatoes for a few years, and hoping this year the chipmunks stay clear.
LMNT Watermelon Salt - My husband and I are both very into these. It’s a nice option when you’re super thirsty to keep you hydrated, and I love how this watermelon flavor tastes. If we go out or I drink a few drinks, I will have one of these before bed. I don’t know if it’s a placebo effect, but it definitely helps with how I feel the next day.
Old Navy Dress - The season is almost here to whip out my athletic dresses, and I wore this the other day to actually play tennis, and I’m reminded why this is the superior athletic dress. Very flattering, built in shorts, and has a pocket in the spandex. The only downside, as with most athletic dresses, is that you basically have to get nude to go the bathroom.
The Idea of You - I feel like I’ve consumed all types of media related to this movie, and I just re-read the book.
(Episode 2) shared some very relatable thoughts on it one of her recent newsletters and it really hits the nail on the head. After re-reading the book, I’ve decided the movie is amazing on its own, but the book is just too good. Anne Hathaway is flawless, and if you didn’t read the book, you wouldn’t know that Solene driving a Subaru is like the Princess of Wales deciding to go goth. The movie gives great vibes, good style, and is just solid. The book however is on a completely different level. It’s impossible to cover the nuance and depth of the book in a movie, and that’s OK. It’s the facts.Uniqlo Bag - I know people have been raving about this bag for a WHILE, and I finally nabbed one. I am pleased to report, it’s as good as everyone said it was. Holds SO MUCH, goes with anything. I can throw diapers and wipes, some snacks, and my wallet, and I don’t need to being anything else. Would definitely recommend, and kind of kicking myself it took so long.
What’s for Dinner
Sunday - Walnut Maple Sticky Buns, Steak Frites - For Mother’s Day, I decided to make myself some of these delicious Walnut Maple Sticky Buns from Dessert Person. I love a bun and this recipe is easy to make, and SUPER delicious. Yeasted desserts used to really intimidate me, but if the recipe is written well, it’s usually not as hard as it feels. This recipe is great because the dough rises in the fridge overnight, and then you just roll them out and do the second rise in the morning before baking. We also made Steak Frites for dinner. This is the steak recipe I used, and these are the fries I usually make. My son said these were “extra delicious.”
Monday - Salmon with Bagged Salad - I tried a Sesame Miso bagged salad the other day for lunch and thought it would be great with a piece of salmon for dinner. We roasted the chicken with the Banchan sauce, and it was great with the salad.
Tuesday - Brats and Tots - Smoked Cheddar Jalapeno Brats for us this week, and the Brats at Costco are finally back, which is great because despite the midwestern Brats being FAR superior, my son insists on the Costco ones. Fine. More for me.
Wednesday - Honey Chipotle Chicken - I made a double batch of this a few weeks back and I froze what was left. This defrosted easily, and now that I have tennis on Wednesday nights, this was a great meal to take out of the freezer and leave for my husband.
Thursday - Out - We have a new Mexican place near our house, and we decided to give it a try. We will definitely be back!
Friday - Pizza Night
Snacks - Cottage Cheese Dip - This recipe is from my cousin last summer, and I am obsessed with it. I make it in a big batch and eat it as a snack during the week with tortilla chips and carrot chips. It’s high in protein, so I feel like I’m eating something healthy.
More A Day In Her Life:
ICYMI this week’s episode with was so so delightful! A listener messaged me to say “This is such a good episode!! She is so real and have some easy things you can actually incorporate!!” and I couldn’t agree more. Hitha is on a bit of a pause with
, but you should give it a follow, as well as .
I shared a quick mini-episode last week about ONE YEAR of the podcast! HOW? I am still in disbelief, but I am so excited about what’s to come.
Eleanor Leftwich (episode 32) released her new High Summer collection, and I couldn’t order this dress fast enough! Her price point is higher than I might usually pounce on, but I admire her commitment to quality, and know deep down that this silhouette is timeless, and something I will wear all summer.
