I have just returned from a work trip, on which I managed to fly all they way to DC without my driver’s license. I have CLEAR and I managed to check in and get through security with the biometric scanning, and didn’t realize until the hotel that I was missing my license. I sweet-talked my way into my hotel room, and I got lucky that I wasn’t selected to show my ID at CLEAR on the way home. BUT don’t be me. Don’t forget your license when traveling. It’s not fun.
ID kerfuffle aside, traveling for work reminds me of a time when I used to travel for work 32-36 weeks a year. I definitely don’t miss that hustle and travel, but I do love traveling alone, and I do love traveling for work every once in a while. Finding fun restaurants and things to do outside of meetings, and connecting with my co-workers. It fills my cup. Glad to be home, though.
Five Friday Favorites:
Cuyana Backpack - I have had this backpack for a long time, and it’s my go-to work travel backpack. It looks refined, but is comfortable, sits well on a rolling suitcase, and has held up over the last 6 years so well. I also used this as my diaper bag for a while with my oldest. I LOVE this bag. It has gotten a lot of new features in the current iteration (including a laptop sleeve etc) and I would 100% repurchase if anything happened to this bag.
Cuticle Cream - This has been a TIBAL favorite for a while but the price tag scared me off. My cuticles were struggling and when Catherine Brown shared it, I bit the bullet. I have been using it consistently for a while and am really pleased with how my nails and cuticles are looking!
Otto - Jeanelle Teves and Catherine Brown have both shared a hack to bring a picture or stuffy with you when you travel to take pictures of for your kids, but I forgot to take anything, so I grabbed this little guy at the airport and have been taking pictures of him all over! My kids can’t wait to meet him, and I like that it’s a keychain because it makes it easy to remember when he’s hanging on my bag. I think Otto will do some international trips with my husband too!
Chap Stick - When my lips are chapped, it is a clear indicator I am dehydrated,. After one day of accidentally not drinking any water while building the kids’ playset, I have been using this and chugging water. It’s not too sticky and absorbs quickly.
- recommended these in a round-up of kick flare pants, and the price of these was right to give them a try. They have become a go-to pair of pants for an elevated but extremely comfortable look. I wore these onsite with clients last week, and then at my office this week and got compliments both times. I am obsessed. The waistband is thick and so comfortable, and they are stretchy but don’t stretch out.
What’s for Dinner
This week was crazy with some travel for both me and my husband. I made some of our favorites on Sunday and Monday and then I was out of town until Thursday night, where we were grateful for a date night supported by my inlaws (if you’re in Boston, we went to Gigi and it was really nice).
Sunday - One Skillet Mexican Rice from the Defined Dish Cookbook
Monday - Honey Chipotle Chicken Tacos - This recipe calls for a slow cooker, but at 4:30pm I realized I hadn’t put it in. So I tried the Instant Pot for 12 minutes and it worked GREAT. I doubled this and froze some extra.

I love to travel for work! I don't do it often, maybe once or twice per quarter but I love to explore restaurants and usually get in a day earlier to explore the city, which most of the time is NYC, LA or Mexico City (Bless!) - I also love to be in an airplane by myself watching shows or reading and not having to be switching activities for my kid every 15 minutes.
