We just got back from a trip to Florida with our friends and their kids, and DANG, going on a trip with lots of other kids might be as close to a vacation as you can get with kids! It was exhausting for sure, but the kids had a blast! They entertained each other, tired each other out, and made little besties! It was so much fun, and definitely gave us the feels heading home since it will be a while until we’re all back together again. It also didn’t help that I came back right into a huge go-live at work and Patriot’s Day/Marathon Monday in MA so both kids were home! It’s exciting, busy, and a tad chaotic.
Also, not to be forgotten, but last week was the ONE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY of the first episode of A Day In Her Life. I am planning to do a fun little recap. I can’t wait for what’s to come for the podcast! I have some big goals for the coming year!
Five Friday Favorites:
Blue Pens - Everyone has their brand, and this is the hill I will die on. I just reordered these, and I figured I’d share. When I started work at Epic in 2010, they had these pens in .5 and .7 in all of the printer rooms, and .5 is my preference. I haven’t strayed since and have become very fond of this niche navy color. 10/10 recommend.
Sticker Wow - This thing was a HUGE hit for the kids on the plane. I’ve already ordered some refills. The stickers also come off easily, if you have kids who like to put stickers all over everything.
No Reception Club Bag - I shared this on Instagram this week, but I love this bag. I got it for the first trip we took with both kids, and it has been used on all subsequent trips, including my work trips. There are so many thoughtful pockets, easy access, and it fits a ton of stuff! I ordered the one that came with a fanny pack, and I used that as our diaper bag for a long time, until I slammed the buckle in a door. It is incredible.
Panama Hat - This Hat Attack hat has come all over with me in the past few years (though I am pretty sure it’s not technically packable), and it doesn’t look any worse for the wear. I will not be in the sun without a hat, and I love this one for being light weight, stylish for both beach and walking around, and comfortable.
Aerie Suits - I was looking for some reasonable bathing suits before our trip to Jamaica, and these have been incredible. They are very comfortable, look similar to the Hunza ones and these have plenty of support.
What’s for Dinner
We got back from vacation on Saturday, so we had Sunday to get settled and grocery shop. Truly the best flex having an extra day after vacation.
Sunday - Cheesy Green Pasta with Chicken - This was a good one! Love a good Caro Chambers recipe, and the chicken was delicious on this.
Monday - Burgers and Fries - The Whole Foods burgers are so good. The Bacon Cheddar Burgers are our favorite, and the kids love a burger. I also love a brioche bun!
Tuesday - Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad - Admittedly, this was supposed to be much better than it turned out to be. I love this Caesar dressing, and I was planning to grill chicken because the weather was gorgeous, and then I realized it was 5:30 and I hadn’t taken the chicken out of the freezer to marinate and defrost in time to grill. Instead, I ended up using these chicken cutlets from Costco, and it was fine. Just fine.
Wednesday - Salmon with Broccoli and Rice - Salmon is so easy for a weeknight, and I love putting some Japanese BBQ sauce on it before roasting and then serving broccoli and rice.
Thursday - Wedge Salad with Steak - I am trying to use some of the meat in our freezer, and I had some filet from our meat share. I can count on one hand the last time we made steak for dinner, and this was SO GOOD. I cooked the steaks in a cast iron skillet on the stove until it was good and seared, and then threw it in the oven to finish off. Served it with a wedge salad with our family's secret blue cheese dressing, bacon bits, baby tomatoes etc.
Friday - Pizza Night!
