Nicole and I talked about it in this week’s episode, but it feels like holidays are getting bigger than they used to be. We discussed it in the context of Valentine’s Day, but I barely remember getting anything other than a book or chocolate in my Easter Basket, yet I find myself going all out for my kids.
Could it be because I’m savoring holidays more because I have kids, or am I just succumbing to the commercialization of the holidays? Who knows. I think maybe it has to do with a bit of both, and maybe because my kids have birthdays near Christmas, I like having an excuse to buy them surprises almost halfway through the year?
Below are the things I am putting in my kids’ Easter Baskets.
Five Friday Favorites:
Tonies - I’ve discussed this with a number of guests, most recently Becca and next week’s guest Elizabeth, but let me tell you, the Toniebox is a DESERT ISLAND TOY for us. If this thing were to break, I’d be devastated, as would my son. He falls asleep to it every night. My daughter was really into it when she was younger, but her attention span took a hit, and she’s coming back to it. I got the kids some new Tonies - Lightning McQueen, Doc McStuffins, and the Animal Songs.
Lego - My son is DEEP in a Lego phase, and we had a big meltdown in Target recently, and the Easter Bunny committed to bringing this Steam Roller and we got another small kit.
PJs - For Christmas and other gifting events, I like to get the kids some things I would get them otherwise, and they both needed new short sleeved PJs. Lake are our favorite, so I got them some of these. I love this floral pattern, and the Hydrangea is always a hit, and I love a matching moment.
Sticker Books - My son is so into these, and we have some travel coming up, so got him a car and a truck one thanks to Claire sharing.
Books - We read this book in the doctors office (our second home) and my son was really into it, so I bought one while I remembered the title, and hid it in our attic. I also ordered the newest Goodnight Construction Site book.
Game - I went to my local toy store for a recommendation (because they always have the best recs) and landed on this Happy Marshmallow Game for my young daughter.
What’s for Dinner
Sunday - Pizza Leftovers - We spent way too much time outside with our neighbors on Sunday for Saint Patrick’s Day, and ended up getting home past dinnertime, and my husband made a decisive move to reheat pizza we had.
Monday - Shrimp Tacos with Homemade Tortillas - These are such an easy quick meal, but I decided I wanted to make some homemade tortillas (because I am a masochist) and they honestly weren’t that good. I wish I’d just bought some.
Tuesday - Everything Salad - I’ve been craving a big salad, and made a good one with Chicken Tenders, carrots, celery, radishes, nuts, cabbage, romaine lettuce and then a homemade blue cheese dressing. The kids ate a deconstructed version of this.
Wednesday - Chicken Tikka Masala - We used the Maya Kaimal Tikka Masala sauce, with some diced chicken and peas. The kids ate some fish tenders.
Thursday - Bolognese - Defrosted a jar of Bolognese and ate with pasta and some frozen bread. I love throwing some par-baked bread in the oven with really easy pasta dinner because it makes it feel slightly more elevated.
Friday - Pizza Night - THE BEST.
