The power of sleep, friends. The power of sleep. It came up in a conversation with an upcoming guest this week, but I don’t think there’s much worse than interrupted sleep - and now that things are back to normal in our house, I am feeling like a new woman. That, and the fact that the sun is setting after 5 pm, are truly sparking joy. I got out for more mental health walks this week, got more sleep, and even had time to needlepoint/knit. This week’s favorites are all over the place, but
Five Friday Favorites:
True Detective - I have watched all previous seasons, but this one is especially creepy as it takes place in Alaska during the long night. It’s the first show in a while that my husband and I get excited to watch together on a Sunday. I don’t think anything will ever top the first season, but I am enjoying this, the complicated characters, and I really want to know what’s going on.
The Holdovers - We rarely watch movies, because we can barely get through an episode of a show in one night, but we picked out this one because of the Golden Globes buzz. It was so charming. If you’re looking for something to watch this weekend, I would definitely recommend it.
- - I was turned on to this substack via ’s links this week and it’s written by Lindsay Stanberry, the founding editor of the Money Diaries on Refinery29 (a favorite of mine because I am curious), about money, motherhood, work, and relationships. It’s so good. Her two new series Division of Labor and Home Economics are enough to keep me coming back for more. I sent to multiple friends already, and now you all!
Crescent City - I am deep into re-reading the House of Earth and Blood and House of Sky and Breath (Crescent City #1 and #2) in preparation for reading the TOME which is the third book. I would argue this series might be my favorite over ACOTAR and Throne of Glass. I love that the world is slightly more modern than the worlds of the other books.
Fancier Hoops - Pre-kids I used to spend a lot of time choosing jewelry etc. but once my son started grabbing for my earlobes, I slimmed down my everyday jewelry to simple gold hoops. I am lazy enough to never take them off, and I even sleep in them (I know I should probably stop this), but I had a few reasons to get slightly more dressy this week, and I decided to wear these Mignonne Gavigan hoops I got for Christmas. I think they’re sold out most places but I love that they’re not too heavy, slightly dressier, and fun. Having them on my dresser is an easy reminder to switch it up.
What’s for Dinner
This week was supposed to be a solo-parenting week, but that ended up changing last minute, and as a result the meals were CHAOTIC. I don’t usually fuss with “making” dinner when my husband is out of town, and eat more what the kids want/whatever is super easy, but with an extra hand, I had time to make more meals after some pantry pillaging.
Sunday - Tomato Soup and Grilled Cheese - My sister has this really easy recipe for Tomato Soup that I can’t seem to find online so I just use the screenshots on my phone, but it’s SO GOOD and SO EASY. Everyone ate it, including the kids.
Monday - Brats and Tots - This week was Dill Pickle Brats, and they were so good!
Tuesday - Out - Kids had Chicken and Pasta
Wednesday - Out - Kids had Mac and Cheese
Thursday - Pantry Sausage and Broccoli Pasta - I didn’t use a recipe for this, just sauteed the Sausage I grabbed from the freezer in one pan while cooking the pasta and frozen broccoli in another pot and ultimately combined them with a healthy dose of parm, butter, and pasta water. My husband loved it, but the kids were not as into it. Can’t win ‘em all.
Friday - Pizza Night
