Five Faves - 12.13
the things I said I'd never do, and the things on my list
I swore for years I would never do the Elf on a Shelf. Years. My oldest just turned 7, so I’ve held out for a while. But this year, it hit me, the magic isn’t forever.
I don’t know if it’s our kids getting older or what, but a few of my friends have had similar reckonings, and also began the elf this year. I was intimidated for a while because of how elaborate some people make it, but a friend reminded me that we can make our own rules for the elf. I don’t have to go Pinterest mom on everything, and we can set the bar as high or as low as we want for elaborate elf daily movements. Snowflake made his arrival to our house last weekend, and my son and daughter could not have been more over the moon about it. So far, we’ve been having fun with it too. I love seeing my kid’s enthusiasm in the mornings.
This December has been a whirlwind - two work trips in two weeks with a late Thanksgiving - meant I’ve not felt like I’ve had time to rest. Now we’re hopefully settling in for the next few weeks, I need to finally think about gifts, and get those organized for my kids and family.
The one thing I’m the most behind on is gifts for myself. Both my mom and my husband ask me daily for gift ideas but it’s been the last thing on my mind. This week on my work trip, I spent some extra time thinking about gift ideas and some things on my list.
I have a few random outwear items on my list. I’ve been lusting after a truly waterproof raincoat for a while and landed on this one after a lot of research. I am looking for a new warm winter jacket - I got rid of the “Amazon jacket” after it did it’s service post-baby, and now I want something similarly large and warm to just throw on for drop offs. I have this, this, and this in my sights. Also these adorable booties for the rain have been on my radar for a while and I am in need of a new pair of mittens. I’d also love a new ski jacket, and this one has had my eyes for a few seasons
Shoe wise, I’m interested in another pair of loafers. I love the smoking shoes and wear them non-stop and the loafers are just gorgeous. I also wouldn’t say no to Santa bringing me a pair of Belgians. I also am lusting over these pants everyone raves about.
One thing I’ve needed for a while is a new yoga mat for strength training in the AM. I have had my eye on the Stakt mat, and ran into a super kind woman in line at Sezane in NYC who told me all about hers, and how much she loved it, sealing the deal that I need it.
I feel like you know I love Cuyana, and given how much I love my large pouch, I put the mini one on my list. I also think these bags are so chic.
I also love an experience gift. I’ve been wanting to go to a very fancy Sushi place in Boston forever, and would love a gift card there or to our favorite restaurant. Or a gift card for a night away at a nearby spa, like Mirbeau, with my husband. There’s also a cool pottery wheel place in Boston I’d love to take my son, and a gift card would be a good incentive.
Hope you’re enjoying the season - whatever this looks like for you!
