Five Friday Favorites:
Here are some little things that are making A Day In My Life a little cozier this week:
Genius Squares - This was a recommendation from
’s Gift Guide, and we are hooked on this game right now. I should have waited to give it to my husband for Christmas, but I forgot. It’s so fun because you can play a round quickly so even with minimal time, you can play a few quick games.Beats Flex - this was a Black Friday Impulse Buy based on a @things.i.bought.and.liked rec and I am loving them. I rarely have my airpods in the kitchen, and I feel like I am always wasting time looking for them, so grabbed these to leave in the kitchen/around the house since they’re easier to spot. I used them all day when doing the lawn/leaves last weekend, and they were super comfortable.
Soup Season - See below. We’ve made three soups so far this week and settling into the cold weather that’s landed here for the next few months.
Indie Lee i-Recover Cream - This is basically a bougie Icy Hot and since I tweaked my back blowing my leaves, I have been slathering myself with this every night and morning. It feels so good on sore muscles.
Smartwool Socks - This is fairly lame, but I have been living in these socks this week. They are so thick and more cushioned than my Bombas and I am loving wearing them around the house and on walks.
What’s for Dinner
Safe to say from our meals this week, I am feeling soup season. I love soups for a number of reasons, the number 1 probably being how easy they are to make in bulk and have for a few more meals. This week, I have made three, and have STOCKED my freezer with soup for a while that we will either eat for dinner, or for an easy lunch.
Sunday - Hunter’s Minestrone - Tyler Florence - This was a recommendation from my aunt, and so delicious. She added half a kielbasa to the recipe, and it was great. I froze 2 16oz containers of the soup.
Monday - Brats and Tots - still working our way through the brats my in-laws brought! So good.
Tuesday - Pasta e Fagiole - Cucina Simpatica cookbook - I made this at the same time as I made the Hunter’s Minestrone on Sunday since it requires many of the same ingredients so it would be ready for Tuesday with no effort. I doubled the recipe and made 4 16oz containers and 4 8oz containers. I usually serve this by itself, or over some pasta I make when serving. If you’ve ever had this dish at Al Forno in Providence, you know.
Wednesday - Vegetable Soup - The Vegi Soup mix from Bob’s Red Mill is IT. It makes VERY delicious, easily riffable soup whenever you need it. I usually follow the standard recipe on the back of the bag and then add some meat. My whole family loves this soup.
Thursday - Was supposed to be Shrimp Curry - Trader Joes - I love the TJs saute sauces, and this one is an easy favorite for a weeknight. I usually cook some veggies like onions and peppers with the shrimp in the sauce and I served this over rice. But we ended up just reheating some leftover pizza we’d frozen.
Friday - Chicken Tacos - I throw Chicken Thighs in a Crock Pot with Salsa Verde and let it go all day on low. Super low effort, and very delicious.
Saturday - Out
