This week was tough. There’s so much trauma going on in the world, and in our backyard, with the recent events unfolding in Maine. I personally can find it hard to focus, and feel a heightened sense of anxiety (over my usual heightened baseline). I feel unceasingly grateful that I get to hug my little humans and family, even when we have our own tough days - like a lockdown drill at school, a lice scare at school (cringe cringe cringe) and a bout of food poisoning for the baby (also cringe cringe cringe). Focusing on giving myself grace, checking in on friends, loving on my humans, and savoring a (rare) moment away with my husband with support from my in-laws. Below are some glimmers from this week.
The Sleep Crown - I have been seeing this on @Things.I.Bought.And.Liked FOREVER and after missing the release MULTIPLE times I finally got one of the regular size sleep crowns. I LOVE IT. It muffles noise, is a calming feeling on my face and overall no complaints. It also helps me to sleep on my back which I know is better for you. No complaints. If you want to get one, set a reminder on your phone for when they drop. It’s a dog-eat-dog world.
Custom Embroidery - I love a good monogrammed moment, and I saw some sweatshirt sets on Old Navy for the kids and sent them off to Bobinette to get monogrammed. They came out SO WELL and I am obsessed. My kids love having their dog on their hearts.
John Derian for Target - I have been lusting after a set of Bordallo Pinheiro Plates for a while, and haven’t pulled the trigger. I will eventually, but these cabbage serving plates and bowls filled that hole in my heart for the time being!
Birdie and Harlow - I have been reading this book by Taylor Wolfe and I have already cried multiple times. I love an autobiography read by the author, and Taylor’s story of growing up with her dog is giving me all the feels. It’s reminding me to spend a bit more time loving on Baker than I already do.
Escapist TV - There is a special place in my heart for the Great British Baking Show, and right now, its really calming like a warm blanket to watch these delightful British people being so kind to each other about their failed pastry or bread or celebrating their wins. This is the TV energy I need right now, it’s a balm to my soul. If you’ve never watched, you’re in for a treat.
What’s for Dinner
As predicted, this week has a heavy focus on the freezer! I tend to freeze a lot of leftovers or intentionally cook more than I need to make weeknight meal preparation easier. Being realistic about what I planned to make and what actually happened, the menu didn’t quite turn out as planned.
Saturday - Baked Potatoes with Chili (from the freezer), Broccoli, and Cheese
Sunday - Fried Rice with Chicken (NYT Recipe but added Chicken)
Monday - Enchiladas Verde (I made up the recipe - will share at some point - from freezer)
Tuesday - Shrimp Tacos Leftover Baked Potatoes from Saturday
Wednesday - Pizza and Salad Ended up eating at a friend’s house
Thursday - Pasta Bolognese (Sauce was J Kenji Alt -Lopez recipe from his book The Food Lab from the freezer - this is a similar recipe)
More A Day In Her Life:
ICYMI Monica Ascioti was on A Day In Her Life this week! Loved chatting with her and learning about her journey to starting The Berkshire Press and how she’s adjusting to live in the burbs and expecting her first baby.
I’ve started sharing a charity at the beginning of the episode, and this week featured Cocotree Kids. Check out the great work they’re doing collecting underwear for at-risk youth in the Massachusetts area.
