Five Faves - 6.14
what's in my medicine cabinet (and travel bag)
I’ve been traveling a lot recently. I did the math and I think I packed my suitcase or an LL Bean tote 10 times in 7 weeks. Too much, but I’m entering a stretch of being home a bit more, and very excited about it.
I switched up my face routine late last year, thanks to the sage advice of my friend Devan Jesmer and I’ve been so happy with it. More than 6mo in, I still get regular comments on my skin from friends and co-workers.
Given the recent travel, I figured I’d actually show you how I travel with all of the things. What’s duplicate, what stays at home, and what I’d cry about if I left at home.
Morning Routine
Advised or not, I rarely use a face wash in the morning, just splash my face with water and try to wake up. I’m not a morning person, and my routine follows that.
Next I spray few sprays of this toner on. I really notice when I don’t use this, so I do travel with the full size. I should find a refillable small travel bottle, but I have yet to actually do that. I’ve had this for almost 6mo and I’m barely halfway through the bottle. I also just noticed they have a small size, and perhaps I’ll order.
Then I put on this hydrating serum. It’s 25% off right now, and I love how the pump actually clears the entire jar, and when you need more, you can just refill instead of getting a new pump. I travel with the normal size of this, but given the reasonable price, could absolutely purchase one for my travel bag. This goes on thick, but I never notice it after I apply it.
Next is this serum, and I also have the travel size thanks to Anfisa. I’ve noticed my skin is less red in the past months, especially this winter, and even a few dark spots have lightened. Having the travel size has made a difference because it’s noticeably smaller than the larger one.
Lastly, this sunscreen. I have loved La Roche Posay for a while, and truly do not despise wearing sunscreen daily like I used to. This doesn’t have any odd white cast, and it feels great on my face. I’ve got two, but I tend to not leave one in my kit.
Then either I run off to get the kids up and eventually forget to put on makeup, or I put on makeup right away and head out.
Night Routine
I travel with this scrub as well as the gel cleanser, but I tend to use the scrub to clean off makeup at the end of a day when traveling. It’s gentle enough that I can use it daily when I’m traveling for a long stretch, but also does a great job getting all the grime off my face, especially after a 17hr day. I have a travel size of the cleanser but not of the scrub.
When traveling, I rarely use my tretinoin because I’m worried about being too dry. It’s more of a concern in the winter, but I’m more cautious.
I love this serum and feel like it does an amazing job making my skin glow, and I don’t mind traveling with it. It might be nice to have a travel size, but I don’t.
This is the holy grail, and I’d be lost without it. I used to swear by Augustinus Bader, and then InnBeauty, but this cream has been my favorite since Devan introduced me and I’m hooked. They have a travel size in a tube, which is annoying since you can’t refill. I should get a small tub container, but really wish the travel size they sell came in a tub like the real product. It’s so hydrating, and I think if I forgot this on a big trip, I’d cry.
