Five Faves - 5.10
Happy Mother’s Day to those who celebrate. If this is a tough day for you, sending you love and grace to get through the day.
I’m hoping to sleep in a bit, maybe get a picture with my kids, and hopefully watch them play together! They’re a really fun phase, and it’s been so fun seeing them play really well together recently. They’ve been really excited about mother’s day which has been adorable.
We’re headed out on a trip in the coming week with the kids, and it occurred to me that we could travel with only carry-ons if we chose to. I don’t think we’ll choose that path on this trip, but it’s wild that we could. Traveling used to be such an ordeal with pack-n-plays, strollers, carseats, and diapers - now we get to just hop on the plane and go!
I’m really looking forward to a few days off of work to just be with my kids. It’s been an incredibly busy season, and I feel like I’m missing a lot of moments, and always feel grateful when I see the world through their eyes.
Below are a few things we’ll be packing/bringing with for the plane ride:
What’s In My Carry On - I will be carrying on this bag for this trip, it’s so handy and I love that it will be so practical for the week we’re there. In it I’ll have my personal computer (maybe my work computer, I haven’t decided), two cuyana pouches, headphones (and this so I can use it to watch inflight entertainment), kindle, battery pack, needlepoint projects, water bottle, and a deck of cards. One of my pouches has lip stuff, shout wipes, purel, hair ties, and hair clips. The other one has airpods, my wallet, and kindle.
Plane Toys - We have a lego obsessed kid, and I love how small this game is for travel. My daughter is obsessed with these magnets, and I wanted to find a smaller travel option, and tested out this and this. I’m going to see which she likes better. I also got this sticker book for her. As always, I’m stocked on stickers and paper. I’ve been leaning into lighter is better in the toy department, but I’ll also bring a set of mini magnatiles and a bag of random legos for my kids to play with when we’re there.
Screens - Planes are a place where we have no limit on screens. I’d obviously prefer if the kids choose to read or play games on the plane, but there are no rules on the iPad on the planes. My kids both love the Lego Game and then we’ll download some shows for them to watch or they can watch something on the seat back screen. We love these wired headphones. They much easier than dealing with bluetooth connections.
Suitcases - Always bringing our trusty Away suitcases. We’ll bring a big duffle, this bag, and then each kid will bring one of these which we love. The kids will carry on theirs. They’ll also each use their school backpack, and they’re big enough for all of their things.
Snacks on Snacks - We travel with an inordinate amount of snacks for the kids - my husband is in charge of packing, but we travel deep. These are huge hits, these are also hot commodity, and these are also big right now. My son also loves these. Each kid has their waterbottle too. Sometimes I feel like my only job as a parent is to sling snacks at my kids so they don’t get hangry, and since the flight is mid day, we may also bring sandwiches or something more meal like.
If you’re traveling this summer with kids, what are your necessary elements? What’s in your carry on?
