OK! These posts took a bit of a hiatus, but I’ve been sharing all about my reads over on Pepper Books - and if you love reading romance, you should head over there too! We’re so excited about what’s coming over there.
I read a lot in February because I had a vacation in there, and I read more Kindle books than I usually do because of said vacation!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Five Star Reads:
First Time Caller (Spotify) - This is a modern re-telling of Sleepless in Seattle and I just adored this. Lucie’s daughter calls into a romance radio show on behalf of her mother, and Lucie ends up co-hosting the show for a bit to find herself a partner. If you’re in the Baltimore area, you’re going to love this, so many local references. Strong tension, great heat, and I wanted them to get together so badly - would absolutely recommend this, especially as an audiobook!
Manacled (Kindle) - Never thought I’d read and recommend Fanfic, but I loved this Dramione Fanfic. It’s changed my vision on Harry Potter forever, convince me this never happened. I dare you. I loved this. Lots of trigger warnings, so check before you read this.
The Many Lives of Mama Love (Audible) - This is a true story about addiction and redemption. A mom finds herself addicted to Heroine and facing prison. Her take on the judiciary and penal system and how she ended up in the position in the first place was fascinating. I listened to this, and the narration by the author is great. This is for my bookclub and I can’t wait to discuss.
Other Reads:
Champagne Venom ⭐️⭐️⭐️ and Champagne Wrath ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (KU) - Paige is down on her luck and meets Misha and they have a one night stand. Turns out she’s his new assistant and then even more shocking, she get’s pregnant. This is a mafia romance and the first ends in a cliff hanger as Misha continues to struggle after the death of his brother and seeking revenge. Very enjoyable, but longer than it needed to be.
Au Pair Affair ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (Libby) and Dream Girl Drama ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (Audible) - OK, I love a Tessa Bailey, but I had some fundamental problems with some of these. First, The Au Pair Affair - the third act breakup was hard to swallow/unrealistic. It was very spicy, though. Then Dream Girl Drama, Sig and Chloe (characters you meet in the Au Pair Affair) find out they’re going to be step-siblings, only after they’ve discovered they’re deeply attracted to each other. They made a big deal out of the step-siblings piece, but my struggle was that they’re not related, so what’s the big deal.
Onyx Storm ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (Audible) - Undoubtedly much better than Iron Flame, and this book was hot. Lots of great tension between Violet and Xaden. I can’t wait for the next book!
The Legacy ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (KU) - This is a series of short stories about the characters from the Off Campus Series after graduation. I loved these characters, so this was a delight going back to them immediately post college and seeing how they’re finding their footing. Really enjoyed this one.
The Charlie Method ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (Kindle) - I had high hopes for this one, and it delivered on the story, but I think under delivered a bit on the spice. It’s the third in the Campus Diaries Series (a spin off of the Off Campus Series) and Charlie is a sorority girl who’s struggling to manager everything on her plate (applying to PhD programs, maintaining a leadership role in her sorority) and messages with two guys, Lars and B, who happen to be Briar U hockey players. There’s why choose but overall thought it could have been spicier.
Deep End ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (Libro.fm) - Ali Hazelwood does no wrong, and this really delivered. The tension building was so so good, the characters were great, and I loved seeing some familiar faces from her other books. Scarlett is a diver with the yips, who’s friend Pen connects her with Lukas (also on the swimming/diving team) because they have similar sexual interests. This was advertised as BDSM but I thought for the hype it fell a bit flat. Don’t get me wrong, this was definitely steamy and I really enjoyed it, I just expected a bit more given the hype.
Big Man ⭐️⭐️ (KU) - I read this in the name of research, and this was heavy on spice, light on plot and plot development. Sasha is a corporate woman who returns to her hometown to settle up her mom’s house for sale. She discovers Garrett owns half the property and in working on it together the tension builds.
