This month was a solid one for reading. I feel like books kept me up past my bedtime more than usual—and probably more than was good for me! I read a lot of Kindle books this month, really leaning into some great Kindle Unlimited romance novels. I also finally read a hardcover that had been sitting on my bedside table for way too long.
I barely read anything from Libby this month, whereas last month was a big one for library reads. I think I let some of my requests lapse, so I need to get some new ones in there.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Five Star Reads:
The God of the Woods (LibroFM) - I immediately pre-ordered this book when I heard Liz Moore was releasing a new book. I loved her previous novel, Long Bright River, and had high hopes for this one—and I was not disappointed. The story begins when a girl goes missing at a camp in the Adirondacks that her parents own, many years after her brother had disappeared in the same woods. This book was heartbreaking and kept me hooked until the end.
The Wedding People (BOTM on Audio) - I didn’t know what to expect from this book, but after hearing so many rave reviews, I decided to give it a try—and I loved it. Phoebe goes to a hotel in Newport, RI, intending to end her life, but ends up becoming part of a wedding happening at the hotel that week. This book features fun, quippy dialogue and covers heavy topics like infertility, suicidal ideation, and infidelity without feeling too heavy. I laughed, I cried, and I didn’t want it to end.
Other Reads
The Sicilian Inheritance ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (Hardcover) - I really enjoyed this book! Sara Marsala is in a deep personal crisis when her beloved aunt passes away, leaving her an opportunity to go to Italy to discover some land they might own and unravel the family mystery—her great-grandmother may have been murdered. This book is both fun and engaging, weaving together the story of Serafina Marsala in early 1900s Italy. It takes many twists and turns, deftly telling the story of the power of strong women.
Not Another Love Song ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️- Gwen, a violinist, is asked to use a cello when performing at a wedding and ends up playing the cello owned by one of her favorite musicians, Xander Thorn. Xander critiques her playing, sparking both a rivalry and a relationship. They both play in the New York Pops, and when Gwen gets the first chair, things really heat up. I loved the musical elements in this book and thoroughly enjoyed it.
BRADs
The Deal with the Bossy Devil ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌶🌶🌶 and Failure to Match ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌶🌶 (Kindle Unlimited) - These were my first reads from this author, and I loved both of them! They were pretty spicy and very enjoyable. In A Deal with the Bossy Devil, Ria ends up indebted to Adrien after a prank gone wrong, and he asks her to pretend to be his girlfriend to get his mom off his back. With both enemies-to-lovers and fake-dating tropes, I knew I would like this one. In Failure to Match, Jackson is a billionaire who has made Jamie’s life as a matchmaker hell for the past eight months. She finally goes on a date with him to figure out why… Both books have great dialogue and plots, and are some of the best BRADs I’ve read in a while.
If You Hate Me ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌶🌶🌶🌶 and If You Want Me ⭐️⭐️⭐️🌶🌶 (Kindle Unlimited) -Another new-to-me series and author, the Toronto Terror series had me hooked. I stayed up way past my bedtime reading the first one! Rix loses her apartment and moves in with her brother Flip and his best friend, her childhood crush, Tristan. The sparks fly with animosity before turning into lust. In the second book, Hammer, the daughter of the team goalie, develops feelings for her father’s best friend, Hollis. There’s a steep age difference and some “daddy” talk that was a bit much for me, but I’m definitely looking forward to the next book.
A Touch of Darkness ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌶 (Kindle Unlimited) - This book is set in a fictional world where Greek myths and gods are real, and mortals and gods coexist. Persephone, the daughter of Demeter, is masquerading as a mortal in New Athens as a journalist. She ends up interviewing Hades, the god of the underworld, and sparks fly. I liked the premise of the world in which this book is set.
